CEO's Quarterly Report

CEO’S Quarterly Report
By Mike Sylvester, Chief Executive Officer

January marked the largest single month of water delivery in Tasmanian Irrigation’s history. February demand remained equally strong. That is a powerful signal. It tells us Tasmanian agriculture is not standing still. It is investing, planting, harvesting and backing its future.

But behind those numbers are people.

We know many of our farmers are stretched. High production, tight windows and the pressure that comes with making the most of every megalitre.

At the same time, our Operations team has been working through sustained peak demand to keep schemes performing safely and reliably. During the busiest part of the irrigation season, our Operators underpin the confidence of every irrigator connected to our schemes.

While we deliver today, we continue to build for tomorrow. The Northern Midlands Irrigation Scheme (NMIS) continues to progress well.

We have also commenced construction on the Sassafras Wesley Vale Irrigation Scheme Augmentation (SWISA). This is a significant milestone. As an augmentation of the original scheme, SWISA will almost triple the volume of high-surety water available in the region.

That scale of uplift is transformational. It strengthens farm resilience, supports diversification and signals confidence in the future of agriculture in the State’s north west.

Projects like NMIS and SWISA demonstrate what Tasmanian Irrigation does best. We convert vision into infrastructure. We turn water security into economic opportunity.

As we move through the remainder of the season, our focus remains clear: deliver safely, deliver reliably and keep building the infrastructure that secures Tasmania’s agricultural prosperity for generations to come.
