Agfest a Winner for Tasmania’s Rural Sector
Agfest 2026 – A Great Celebration of Agriculture in Tasmania
Tasmanian Irrigation’s return to Agfest for the first time in more than a decade was warmly received by farmers, landholders and industry stakeholders, with strong interest shown in irrigation opportunities, water availability and projects under construction across the State.

Sharing space in the TasFarmers marquee at Quercus Park, Tasmanian Irrigation CEO Mike Sylvester said the event had provided an important opportunity to connect directly with the Tasmanian agricultural community and highlight the role irrigation plays in supporting Tasmania’s future.
“Tasmania’s future prosperity is closely linked to the strength and resilience of its agricultural sector.

“Tasmanian Irrigation plays a central role in that future by developing, owning and operating modern irrigation schemes that deliver highly reliable water to farmers where and when it is needed,” Mr Sylvester said.
Visitors to the stand explored a model display demonstrating how irrigation water can be applied on farm, contributed ideas to a water efficiency activity wall and gained insights into current water availability across schemes. They also heard how Farm Water Access Plans (Farm WAPs) support sustainable irrigation by helping irrigators manage environmental risks and protect Tasmania’s natural values for future generations.

Current projects under construction, or in development, in the Northern Midlands, Sassafras Wesley Vale and Greater South East regions also generated strong interest, with visitors taking the opportunity to speak directly with staff involved in these projects.
Mr Sylvester said the conversations held throughout Agfest reinforced the importance of continuing to work closely with farmers and regional communities as Tasmania’s irrigation network continued to grow.

“When we ensure a sustainable future for agriculture, we build resilience in the wider community.
“When farms prosper, jobs are created, communities grow and regional Tasmania benefits.”
