SCADA & Electrical Engineer

Full Time – Launceston

ABOUT US

Tasmanian Irrigation is a State-owned Company that develops, owns and operates irrigation schemes in Tasmania, in accordance with sound commercial practice. Our mission is to deliver water where and when it’s needed to support sustainable agricultural growth in Tasmania.

We own and operate 19 irrigation schemes across the state, and we have $1.3 billion of new irrigation projects in development. We deliver water to our customers at the lowest sustainable price, while responsibly and sustainably managing our water resources, scheme assets and the environment.

Tasmanian Irrigation has the capacity to deliver 156,000 megalitres of high surety water each year, irrigating more than 133,000 hectares of land. For every 1,000 megalitres of water delivered, there is up to $3 million in on-farm investment, up to $7 million in annual economic uplift, and up to 30 direct and indirect jobs created.

All schemes developed and operated by Tasmanian Irrigation are economically viable, environmentally sustainable, have strong community endorsement, are designed to last at least 100 years and deliver water at an average reliability of more than 95 per cent per annum.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a key member of the Asset Intelligence team, you will:

  • Design and program SCADA, PLC, RTU and HMI systems
  • Lead standardisation and design improvements across control systems
  • Provide expert support for fault finding, optimisation and system upgrades
  • Contribute to asset management and maintenance strategies
  • Support delivery and commissioning of capital projects
  • Manage minor SCADA projects and system enhancements
  • Provide technical advice on compliance, standards and system performance

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Key to this role will be an individual’s ability to:

  • Demonstrated experience with SCADA and control systems design and programming
  • Strong knowledge of PLC, RTU and HMI systems
  • Experience in operational environments and asset management
  • Proven ability in fault finding, RCA and system optimisation
  • Experience delivering projects and managing suppliers/contractors
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to provide technical advice to stakeholders
  • Relevant engineering or technical qualification
  • Exposure to Schneider, Kingfisher or similar systems highly regarded

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate experience in a similar position, ideally within water infrastructure, industrial automation or large-scale operational environments, including irrigation schemes, wastewater or sewerage networks, or comparable control system environments.

The successful SCADA & Electrical Engineer will have:

  • A relevant Engineering degree consistent with eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia
  • Demonstrated experience in SCADA, PLC, RTU and control system design, programming and support
  • Experience supporting or delivering electrical and control systems within operational or infrastructure environments
  • A proactive, self-driven approach with the ability to work autonomously and provide technical leadership
  • A strong alignment to Tasmanian Irrigation’s values and commitment to a positive, collaborative and safety-focused culture

In this role, you will work closely with the Asset Intelligence team, Operations teams, external contractors and technical specialists to deliver electrical and control systems support, optimisation and continuous improvement across Tasmanian Irrigation’s asset base.
