Tasmanian Irrigation is a State-owned Company that develops, owns and operates irrigation schemes in Tasmania, in accordance with sound commercial practice. Our mission is to deliver water where and when it’s needed to support sustainable agricultural growth in Tasmania.
We own and operate 19 irrigation schemes across the state, and we have $1.3 billion of new irrigation projects in development. We deliver water to our customers at the lowest sustainable price, while responsibly and sustainably managing our water resources, scheme assets and the environment.
Tasmanian Irrigation has the capacity to deliver 156,000 megalitres of high surety water each year, irrigating more than 133,000 hectares of land. For every 1,000 megalitres of water delivered, there is up to $3 million in on-farm investment, up to $7 million in annual economic uplift, and up to 30 direct and indirect jobs created.
All schemes developed and operated by Tasmanian Irrigation are economically viable, environmentally sustainable, have strong community endorsement, are designed to last at least 100 years and deliver water at an average reliability of more than 95 per cent per annum.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Tasmanian Irrigation is seeking a Project Controls Officer to join our Major Projects team based in Launceston.
This role is responsible for supporting the effective planning, monitoring and financial management of capital projects, ensuring strong governance and high-quality project delivery outcomes across our growing portfolio.
Working closely with Project Managers, Finance and technical teams, you will play a key role in delivering accurate, timely and insightful project controls reporting, supporting decision-making, financial sustainability and risk management across major infrastructure projects.
This is a critical role contributing to the successful delivery of projects that support Tasmania’s agribusiness sector and water security.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Key to this role will be an individual’s ability to:
- Prepare and update project budgets, forecasts, cashflows and financial reporting
- Monitor expenditure, track performance and provide variance analysis and insights
- Support project governance, risk management and compliance requirements
- Contribute to the development and improvement of project controls systems, processes and reporting frameworks
- Analyse financial and project data to identify risks, trends and corrective actions
- Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
- Support procurement and contract management activities, including invoice and claims validation
To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate experience in a similar position within infrastructure, construction, engineering or capital project environments.
The successful candidate will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, Finance, Commerce, or similar.
- Experience in project management, project controls, cost control, scheduling or project finance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- Knowledge of project governance, procurement and contract administration
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach with the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively
Experience in large-scale infrastructure or government-funded projects, and familiarity with project controls methodologies (e.g. Earned Value Analysis), will be highly regarded.
