Permanent - Full time Role

ABOUT US

Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd is a State-owned Company that develops, owns and operates irrigation schemes in Tasmania, in accordance with sound commercial practice, to facilitate the expansion of agricultural production in the State.

Tasmanian Irrigation owns and operates 19 irrigation schemes across the state, along with additional inherited infrastructure. Tasmanian Irrigation’s promise to our irrigator customers is to “provide irrigators reliable and consistent water at the lowest sustainable price while responsibly and sustainably managing our water resources, scheme assets and the environment.”

The Company also oversees development of irrigation schemes, funded through a unique public / private partnership model.

Tasmanian Irrigation now oversees 26,000 individual infrastructure assets with a replacement value of approximately $500 million and has the capacity to deliver more than 151,000 megalitres of irrigation water each year.

All schemes developed and operated by Tasmanian Irrigation are economically viable, environmentally sustainable, have strong community endorsement, are designed to last at least 100 years and deliver water at an average reliability of more than 95 per cent per annum.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are searching for a talented and experienced Electrical and Instrumentation Technician with a proactive approach and positive attitude from an industrial, water or utilities background to join our Asset and Operations Team.

This position is a critical role within the Asset and Operations Team and supports TI’s capacity to deliver uninterrupted water supply to their irrigator body throughout the State. The Electrical and Instrumentation Technician is a state-wide role with a primary focus on the provision of repairs, routine maintenance, modifications, and installation work, whilst providing technical guidance and assistance.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Key to this role will be an individual’s ability to;

  • Provide remote and field-based fault diagnosis and creative problem solving
  • Coordinate and implement planned maintenance activities, repairs and modifications
  • Deliver high quality technical support and advice
  • Interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings, schematics, and P&ID’s
  • Communicate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders

To be considered for this role, you must demonstrate prior experience in a similar position preferably within the development of irrigation schemes, mini-hydro power station, wastewater or sewerage networks or large-scale industrial installations.

The successful Electrical and Instrumentation Technician must;

  • Hold a relevant technical qualification and HV electrical licence
  • Have demonstrated skills in electrical, instrumentation and control systems, including SCADA, telemetry and PLC systems
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of Electrical Wiring Rules, Electrical Codes of Practice and the Electrical Safety Act
  • Have a proactive and self-driven attitude with the ability to work autonomously
  • Be aligned to TI’s people positive culture

As the Electrical and Instrumentation Technician you will work closely with scheme operators, other TI technical staff and the Manager, Assets and Operations to deliver electrical and instrumentation support across all TI irrigation schemes.
